GREETINGS FROM SIEDLCE, POLAND!
I would like to express my most sincere thanks for your past participation in our service program in Poland. Thanks to all the wonderful former volunteers we could help thousands of both young and adult students learn English. With joining the European Union in 2004, the English language has become an essential factor on the way to our educational and economic success. While helping the Polish students learn English, the volunteers assist Poland on its journey to prosperity, democracy, and global inclusion.
In the fall we conducted classes for the students from Elementary schools in Cisie and Niwiski as well as Middle schools in Kotun and Siedlce. We worked with disabled adults at Caritas in Siedlce as well as at-risk children from the after-school shelter. We also conducted classes for adults at Kofoed, the office staff of the National Health Fund in Siedlce as well as teachers from Cisie and Niwiski. Altogether in the fall of 2007 we taught approximately 200 students. Also, thanks to the generosity of sponsors through Global Volunteers Sponsorship Program, Cisie Elementary School now has a computer projector which will be used by Global Volunteers as well as the Polish teachers if needed. This projector will expand the possibilities for student learning, allowing many students to easily view items being taught.
We need to continue this link of such positive changes. Each person makes such a big difference. I hope that our upcoming teams will grow bigger and we won’t have to turn any students down. Their knowledge of the English language in the country that is still a relatively new member of the European Union is undoubtedly essential.
We would be very grateful for your assistance during the upcoming summer sessions at Reymontowka manor house as well as the camp for middle school students in the most spectacular mountain resort, Zakopane.
If you came back to Siedlce, you would stay again in the charming 200-years- old manor house, which is surrounded by outstanding artwork as well as picturesque and peaceful countryside. At the end of April a group of the local woodcarvers will work onsite on creating new pieces of the traditional art. They will decorate the garden surrounding the manor house.
During your return trip to my country you will clearly see how Poland is taking full advantage of the tremendous and unique opportunities arising from the emergence of free market and the development of democracy. The investment boom is visible everywhere you look.
Additionally, during your free weekends you have a chance to revisit Warsaw and Krakow, both of which are on the World Heritage List. According to the website http://www.krakow.pl/en/miasto/abc/ , an American travel agency Orbitz proclaimed Krakow the most fashionable city of the year 2007.
I am certain that your time in Poland would be an exceptionally enjoyable experience. There are a lot of great opportunities awaiting you in Poland! It would be wonderful to work with you again in my home country!
If you are unable to return to Poland to join another service program, I encourage you to stay connected by sponsoring a classroom of students at Cisie Elementary School through Global Volunteers’ Sponsorship program. You could also tell others about your experiences in Poland and encourage them to serve or sponsor.
