Global Volunteers was one of the first, and only, NGO of its kind to be granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations. This positions Global Volunteers uniquely to
represent local leaders in an international arena, and to engage short-term volunteers in
community development efforts with long-lasting results.
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is responsible for "promoting higher standards of living, full employment, and economic and social progress; identifying solutions to international economic, social and health problems; facilitating international cultural and educational cooperation; and encouraging universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms."
We're committed to attending regular sessions and participating with U.N. agencies and programs to help bring about U.N. initiatives for ensuring the safety and development of children and ending hunger and poverty worldwide.
