Where do I exchange money?
At the airport: The foreign-exchange counter at Belfast Airport is in the baggage collection area and is open for most flight arrivals. Although the rate at the airport may not the best, you may want to exchange a small amount of money there because you might not have a chance to exchange again for several days.
In Belfast: There are dozens of banks and exchange facilities in Dublin where you will be able to exchange cash, get an advance on a credit card, use an ATM, or cash travelers' checks.
In Balleycastle: There are several banks with exchange facilities.
Can I use cash, credit cards or checks?
- Credit Cards: Visa, MasterCard, Access and American Express as well as other credit cards and charge cards are widely accepted, although many smaller stores will only accept cash.
- Traveler's Checks: Most major travelers' checks are readily accepted at banks in Northern Ireland. However, travelers' checks are rarely used for everyday transactions by businesses.
- Cash: Cash is definitely the easiest option. You can obtain cash advances on your card from a bank and from some ATMs or cash machines. There is an ATM machine at the airport.
How much money should I bring with me?
