How Do Volunteers Stay Involved at Home?

Over the years, volunteers have expressed a strong desire to stay connected with their host communities and to continue their work with the local people they served once they return home. Sharing the excitement of new insights and perspectives is an important part of your experience.

Our "Serve ~ Sponsor ~ Support" Program
When you join a Global Volunteers team, you join a worldwide network of service nurtured by local host organizations and staff on six continents -- and supported by a golden chain of dedicated volunteers who have preceded you and will follow in your footsteps. All work together to ensure our partnerships will consistently address the needs of the local people we serve. A steady stream of committed volunteers and sufficient funding form the foundation of our continued support across the globe. More than 30 percent of our volunteers join future teams, and many bring others with them. This is the most effective way you can continue to support Global Volunteers' work.

While your participation on a service program is the "core" of Global Volunteers' partnership with host communities, we also need your help to recruit others to join future teams, and to provide additional financial support for vulnerable children in host communities worldwide.

Sponsor a Child or Classroom: Global Volunteers' hosts rely on our financial assistance to provide for the basic living and educational needs of the children in their care. While our volunteer teams provide tremendous "hands-on" resources year-around, funding often falls short. That’s where sponsorships help fill the gap. If you're excited about the opportunity to directly support children in need, please become a child or classroom sponsor.

Join the Encore Team: As a Global Volunteer, your continued support is very important to us. To make it easy to stay connected with your host community and the others who have served there, you can connect through the "Encore Center."  Here, you can join a local or “virtual” group of volunteers who work together to recruit new volunteers and promote Global Volunteers' work, help raise funds for special host community projects, attend conferences and volunteer fairs, serve as references, learn about new online technology, and assist the Global Volunteers staff with special projects.
